Toastmasters is an excellent way to improve your communication and leadership skills in a supportive environment. Meetings are practical sessions in which participants work on their speaking and leadership skills in a positive atmosphere.
Meetings are held in the Seven Oaks Hotel, Athy Road, Carlow, on the first and third Wednesday of each month from September until May, 8pm until 10:30pm.
Please feel free to come along on any of our meeting nights to observe or participate, have a cup of tea and a chat with our members.

Meetings start with a brief introduction from each member carrying out a role, explaining what is involved in that role and the reason for it. This leads into the table topics session, which lasts for 45 minutes. After a short tea break a few members will deliver prepared speeches and an assigned member will give an evaluation on the speech.
The table topics master delivers a random topic to the group. If a member has something to say on the topic they can choose to deliver a short, unprepared speech on that topic, this is to encourage thinking on your feet. New members or guests only participate if they choose to do so. The table topics session is always fun and entertaining.
The second half of the meeting gives members a chance to work through their Toastmaster communication manuals, by way of prepared speeches. Manuals are designed to lead toastmasters from a introductary 'ice breaker' speech to more advanced speeches. All speeches are followed by a three minute evaluation. Evaluations are supportive, outlining the good points of the speech and recommendations for further improvements.
Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Our membership is 313,000 strong. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 14,650 clubs in 126 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations. The world needs leaders. Leaders head families, coach teams, run businesses and mentor others. These leaders must not only accomplish, they must communicate. By regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters program. Every Toastmasters journey begins with a single speech. During their journey, they learn to tell their stories. They listen and answer. They plan and lead. They give feedback and accept it. Through our community of learners, they find their path to leadership.
